Man U tops Group E, but Fergie worried with 2-2 draw
Snatching a point instead of bowing to defeat almost feels like a victory. A weaken Manchester United side, with nine changes to the squad that faced Sunderland, avoided a loss and drew 2-2 at home to Aalborg in the Champions League.
However, Fergie isn’t happy with the result which ensured them a first place finish in Group E with only 10 points.
“I am concerned by the chances we’re missing,” the United manager said in the Daily Mail.
“I don’t know what it is – concentration or carelessness. But we’re going to embarrass ourselves if we are not careful.”
Indeed, Manchester United missed an awful lot of chances in the whole of the game and it was rather the visitors who were delighted with the draw.. Aalborg took a shocking lead through Curth after levelling the game to 1-1.
Paul Scholes and Ji Sung Park came one immediately after to inspire the midfield; Their presence had quite a lot of effect as Rooney equalized seven minutes.
The Argentine forward Carlos Tevez had a glorious opportunity to put the Reds in front. But the same man who opened the score line for Manchester after only three minutes of game amazingly failed to score the fifth goal of the game.
Meanwhile, despite displaying an unconvincing performance in the Champions League on Wednesday, Tevez is believed to be in Fergie’s plans. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the United boss confirmed that the club had no intentions of selling the former Corinthians striker:
“It’s not as if we’ve been short on negotiations, there have been plenty of negotiations and I think that we all know that sometimes it can take a long time,”
“David Gill, our chief executive, has been talking to his agent and therefore it’s best left with David because he’s good at that.
“We’re used to this over the years and we’re all used to it. You just have to be patient.”
“It’s not difficult because when you have a squad of players, everyone gets their share of games and the important thing is that Carlos has made a great contribution,” the Scot declared .
“He’s started a few games. We’re halfway through the season and by the end of the season, you’ll see how many games he’s actually participated in and I think that contribution he’s making at the moment has been very important to us. There isn’t one player that’s played all the games.
Fergie continued his explanations: “They’ve all had minutes on the clock and some of them have spent time on the bench and some of them haven’t been involved at all in various games and that’s exactly what happens these days with the modern use of squad rotation.”
It has been reported that MSI are demanding around £34 million for Tevez, perhaps a fee too high for the Red Devils.
